Internacional Day of Forest - EBI da Praia da Vitória(JIFOC), Açores-Portugal, Margarida Paim

As part of the World Tree Day celebrations, we accepted the invitation from the Praia da Vitória City Hall (CMPV) and signed up for the activity promoted by the Praia da Vitória Environmental Interpretation Center.

During the activity, we learned about the characteristics of trees, their development and needs. In the end, we received three trees to plant at our school.

We also took the opportunity to present to the guests the work that has been developed throughout the project.

We planted the "URZE" tree with the help of Mr. Luís, our school's education assistant. We record the tree data on the certificate and write down the commitments to our tree.

E. azorica (common name URZE) is a species of the best-known natural vegetation of the Azores, occurring on all the islands of the archipelago, in habitats ranging from the coastline to the highest mountains, being absent only from the top of Pico Mountain. Despite being abundant, it is a protected species whose destruction requires licensing from the environmental agency.
